I’m hoping that this will be a more common decision when/if more companies decide to hire newly graduated bachelors/masters holders for them to get job experience at a decent pay rate.

Your statement of thinking about what you will use the PhD after obtaining it is exactly why I didn’t go straight into a PhD program after I finished my bachelors. I couldn’t justify spending 7+ years of my life in a program when I didn’t know what could’ve been on the other side (other than a pipeline academic career, which didn’t sound appealing at the time).

It’s nice to see these thoughts written about and shared by others, as well as validating my own choices. Great piece!
